TRITTON AX 180 PC Configuration

So I've recently purchased a Tritton AX 180 headset specifically for gaming.  Reviews for the product which I have read have stated that it produces sound that's too "bassy".  For me, this is only true when using the headset in "PC2" mode.  However, when switching to "PC1", the sound has much more clarity.  Also, the volume for the speakers/mic will be switched, so using the "Game Vol" switch to control the volume will not work.  Instead, the "Voice Vol" switch must be used.
To me, the "PS3/PC1" mode produces better sound and the only reason I can think of is that there's some filtering circuitry that adapts the audio for the console to which it is connected and it just so happens that the "PS3" settings results in better quality audio for the PC.
I'm running Windows 8 64-Bit using the on-board audio of the P8Z86 Deluxe/GEN3 motherboard.
Hope this helps.

#UPDATE
For anybody getting noise from the headset, the volume rockers are actually buttons themselves which can be depressed to mute either the speakers or the mic.

So I've figured that using the driver from Realtek allows you to use the USB sound-card which comes with the headset.  I have to admit that after using the default configuration ie. using your sound card and not the USB sound card, the USB sound card provided with the headset delivers really crappy sound.  I don't know what I'd been listening when I originally blogged about this.  Anyway, it seems that when using Microsoft's driver, the USB card is never detected and the headset always uses your sound card.

  1. Hey I have the AX180's myself and found that PC1 mode only offered mono sound on my PC. What drivers do you use for the built in USB sound?

I had to invest in a dedicated soundcard to reduce electrical noise from the onboard sound.

    1. Hi

Sorry for this late response. When I've had mono sound, it was because the connection on the control unit wasn't secure. As for the driver, I'm currently running Windows 8, so it'll be the default Microsoft Driver.

My solution for electrical noise is to use a separate USB power source for the headset. This way I get no interference at all. I currently use a Roccat Apuri for my USB power.

Hope you sort out your issues. Since I've sorted mine out (the electrical noise was the worst), I've been enjoying the headset more.

      Cheers
